There are many different types of lubes on the market – they all pretty much get the job done, but you should be aware that not all lubes are created equal. Some can disrupt the integrity of your toy and of course, you want to do what you can to prolong the lifetime of your fun stash. There are basically three types:
1. Water Based Lubes: Water based lubes are the most popular. Safe for use on toys of all kinds. They’re smooth and slick, but not sticky and messy like silicone and oil-based lubes can be. They clean up easily with a bit of warm water and soap, and since they are water based, you have less of a chance of irritation or allergy from them, which is great if you have super sensitive skin like I do. One drawback is that they do not last as long as some of the silicone lubes, but depending on how long your sex session goes for, this might not be a problem for you. And besides, sneaking in a quickie every now and then isn’t so bad, is it? Water based lubes are also completely safe to use with condoms, so get your shwerve on without worrying about degrading your love sack.
2. Silicone-based lubes are greasier than their water-based counterparts- but last much longer. The best thing about silicone lubes is just that – they stay slippery until you wash it off. You can use them in the shower or bath and still stay slick. They are a bit more work to clean off, and can sometimes leave you feeling sticky. Should not be used with silicone toys as it will break them down.
3. Oil Based Lubes – Probably the least commonly used as they are unsafe for condoms and latex based toys (not a problem if you are in a situation that doesn’t require them), but can easily cause vaginal irritation in women. They are very messy, can stain sheets and clothes, and are generally the hardest to clean off. (Think baby oil).
Lubes can also help to increase/decrease stimulation during sex. A great one for couples is the Swiss Navy 2 in 1 His & Hers Sensation Gel. A pump from the blue side “For Him” will prolong his erection and ejaculation time, letting him rise to his rock star status in the bedroom, while a squirt from the purple “For Her” pump will increase arousal with a tingling warming/cooling sensation.
Anal Eaze Cream is great for desensitizing the initial discomfort some may feel during anal sex, or for use when you need to prolong your final act a bit.
Wet is a very popular brand that makes use of yummy flavors that encourage oral play. Who can resist flavors like Passion Fruit Pizzazz, Tropical Fruit Explosion, or Popp’n Cherry?
We didn’t forget about masturbation – Guys, you can stop getting in trouble for using all the expensive shampoos, conditioners, and lotions in the house. Just buy a tub of Elbow Grease and get your groove on. It’s odorless, safe and long lasting, and best of all, made just for you.
Lubes are a must have for any naughty toy box, whether it’s to supplement your body’s natural moisture, getting a quickie underway, or just to add a bit of slick fun to your routine.
